Chaos Sorcerer Conversion - Plastic Kitbash

Chaos Sorcerer Conversion with Wings!

I've been wanted to convert a plastic Chaos Sorcerer for a while now but didn't seem to have the inspiration until recently. This beast is actually very simple to kitbash! The legs, arms and gun are from the new Raptor kit, the torso and wings are from the Possessed box, and the head, torso, staff, and miscellaneous gubbins are from the Terminator Lord sprues. Bung them all together with magic glue (Humbrol Liquid Poly actually) and viola!

I will be Jump Pack-ing him around the table in future games, but if this turns out to be folly the wings can simply count as 'excessive decoration'.

Some more shot below. Only minor green stuffing was required - mostly due to the MASSIVE Sorcerer head preventing the shoulder pads from sitting correctly. I've also repositioned his left foot slightly so he's pushing off the rock.

A simple, but effective alternative to the Finecast model I say. I'll be painting him up soon and writing up some more of my oh-so-popular background! Oh, and I'll just leave you with this parting shot or something I may be talking about a little but in the future...

Pew pew pew!

Minotaurs Colour Scheme Part 3 (Plus Scouts Built)

Minotaur Space Marine Colour Scheme
Here's the final paint scheme I'll be using for my Minotaurs. I've gone for a quick-to-paint scheme, rather than display cabinet quality. Created a little step by step guide for people who still want to see the new GW paints in action.

Armour
First, I painted two very watered down layers of Screaming Bell (like, 50/50 water to paint) to give the model a solid basecoat for the bronze. Then, a couple of layers of Sycorax Bronze. Again I watered down to create a smooth coverage.

I very lightly drybrushed Golden Griffon to give the model a bit of highlight. To finish the armour, I gave the model a wash of Reikland Fleshshade. This both gives the model some shading, while smoothing down the effect of the drybrushing. I think doing a drybrush then wash really makes the armour more subdued, and allows me to pick out all the other details with line highlighting, making them stand out over the shiny armour.

Details
The chest eagle was based with Celestra Grey, washed with Nuln Oil, and highlighted with Scar White. Skull was Zandri Dust, Agrax Earthshade, Zandri Dust again, Ushabti Bone, and Screaming Skull. Armour joints are Mechanicus Standard Grey and washed with Nuln Oil then highlighted with Grey again. Eye lenses and metal bits were painted in the same manner as the boltgun below.

To stand out from the armour a bit, and to compliment the 'veteran' red pauldrons for sergeants and the like, I decided to paint weapons red - including chainswords and boltguns. For the metal: Base with Leadbelcher, wash with Nuln Oil and Highlight with Runefang Steel. For the red: Base with Mephiston Red, Shade with Carroburg Crimson, then highlight with Evil Sunz Scarlet.

Base
Sand glued with PVA, washed with Nuln Oil, heavy drybrush of Mechanicus Standard Grey followed by a light drybrush of Celestra Grey. Paint the rim black. For the snow I used the GW stuff on top of PVA - needed at least three layers, leaving a bit of the previous layer shower for a 'melting' effect.

Transfers
The Forge World transfers are awesome, so I picked up a sheet for my Minotaurs. Prepared the area with a couple of coats of 'Ardcoat first to aid in decal placement. Once the transfer is on and completely dry, I gave it another coat of 'Ardcoat to seal and a couple of coats of Lahmian Medium to matte. I was thinking of using some sort of decal softener (like micro sol), but wanted to try it without first.

And we're finished! Fairly quick and painless:

Minotaur Scouts
I picked up a pack of sniper scouts for my Minotaurs too this week, converted up the sergeant as well. I'm going to give all my sergeants mk4/5 armour so didn't want to leave him out! Just because he has scout armour doesn't mean he can't have 'armour lips'. Not too good with green stuff but looks ok. Also positioned and green stuffed another one of the scouts so he wasnt in a boring 'forward facing' pose. You can't really see it in the photos, but I've green stuffed a lip around his bracers too. Hopefully it will look decent when smoothed and painted.

Kill Team
For those of you who are interested, I've updated the main rules to v1.1b - just a few tweaks, including some rules to allow for Campaigns. Of which I am almost finished writing rules for now, so check back soon for them (should be done next week). Also added rules for Necrons and Blood Angels teams.

Space Marine Librarian Conversion (w/ Storm Shield and Relic Blade)

Here's what I've been working on this afternoon, a Terminator Librarian for my Blood Angels doubles army (need to paint him for February). Sorry for phone pics:

There was a huge miscast on the shoulder pad with half the book was missing, and lots of excess resin along the rim. My green stuff skills are limited but managed to sort it well enough for my standards. Also gave him the relic blade from the Sevrin Loth kit (with minimal converting) and a Storm Shield from the forge world boarding captain - which was a pain in the arse and had to basically sculpt a new handle plus cables so it fit in the models hand. Looks ok though.

Blood Angels Contemptor Dreadnought Built

Had a bit of a crazy night last night, but managed to get my new Contemptor-class dreadnought built! He'll be used as a standard dreadnought in the upcoming  40kUK GT (if he's painted in time):

The pose came out well, was really awkward to position (due to super glue insta-sticking to resin), so you have to make sure you know how everything is going to fit! Also, finished painting and basing my Assault Squad, will take some good photos tonight to put them on over the weekend.

On a side note, go watch Ghostbusters at your local cinema tonight - its one of cult classics that you need to see at the cinema at least once, and this might be your last chance.

Cadian Gunnery Sergeant Harker Conversion

In preparation for a big overhaul of my Imperial Guard in the new year (once my Blood Angels are complete), I tried to convert up a Gunnery Sergeant Harker. I don't particularly like the GW metal model, and my army is based on the Cadian 501st anyway. So here it is, sorry for crappy phone pic:

Thought it came out quite well! Was torn between using the marine devastator heavy bolter (as above), or try the scout one. As it turns out, I really like the ammo feed - and it merges nicely with the ammo container on his back (again from the marine devastator sprue). And of course, he needs his +1 Bandanna of Ogryn Strength. How else does he get to be Strength 4!

Oh and popped into Warhammer World on the way back from work and treated myself to a Contemptor dreadnought :-D. Just washed all the resin, and hoping to build this baby tomorrow and get him undercoated ready for a game on Sunday (day after my mates Stag night.... urgh. Definitely time for a Bugmans all day breakfast!).

Converting Lizardmen Chameleon Skinks

For those who are like me and cringe whenever we hear someone say 'just green-stuff it', total model conversions are difficult. So I was surprised when I found myself wanting to convert some regular skinks into chameleons. This is because the metal models are HORRIBLE, and at £8.50 for 3, my planned twin units of 9 would come to a mammoth £51... plus you only get 3 poses!

So I ventured into this escapade the only way i knew how, the easy route. Simply put, I used a hair-dryer to bend the skinks tail so that it was curly, and green-stuffed the googly eyes by rolling a small ball, placing it over the current skink eyes, and pressing a round file into it (slightly to the front of the ball so it doesn't look too weird). Took me no time at all to convert 18 models!

Here's my attempt anyway:

Simple, but effective.

Watch out for the rest of my 2,000 points lizardmen army of doom soon, going to finish building them this weekend and get the purple on! It would be 3000 points but ive been restricted in my model purchasing until i have finished my Blood Angels, bloody women!
